Respect Rising
We're calling out to Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal community members and organisations across WA, who share a vision to walk together and advance reconciliation in regional Western Australia.
Western Australians who call this place home know that every community across our vast State shares a story, unique with the people who find belonging in it. Respect Rising is a time for Reconciliation WA to listen deeply with our friends, new and old, in regions across WA.
RWA are motivated to hear experiences, understand perspectives, and learn how to best-support reconciliation in the regions. We are committed to truth-telling, establishing genuine relationships through mutual respect, and the alignment of opportunities to advance reconciliation. Respect Rising is a community-led initiative and RWA will facilitate a series of regional engagement sessions commencing in June 2023.
Respect Rising will begin with a Place-Based Reconciliation Pilot in the Great Southern Region.

Evolving the reconciliation movement in a post-referendum world
Help us shape Western Australia's reconciled future
In 2024, Reconciliation WA will be leading Western Australia’s post referendum discussions, as we consider the future vision of the reconciliation movement.
We will be holding these yarns in partnership with a number of key organisations to ensure a broad community of views are heard.
There will be a range of ways for you to contribute, whether you would like to provide a quick comment, or to engage in longer discussions. We’ll have avenues to participate no matter whether you live regionally or in a metro area, and safe spaces will be created for both mob and ally discussions.
Please spread the word and share our flyer with your community and networks.
Place Based Reconciliation in the Great Southern
Reconciliation Australia and Reconciliation WA have partnered to deliver a national first, Place-based Reconciliation Pilot.
In partnership with
This Reconciliation pilot aims to co-design, co-decide, and co-deliver on a plan that harnesses the ambition and capacity of the Great Southern region to advance reconciliation through a place-based approach, and support Goreng, Ganeang and Minang Noongar peoples’ self-determination.
The Pilot seeks to engage the Great Southern community in a grass-roots movement to:
- Describe their unique reconciliation landscape
- Co-design, co-decide and co-action a bespoke place-based reconciliation framework
- Define and measure progress towards place-based aspirations and outcomes.
The pilot will have active support from Reconciliation Australia and Reconciliation WA throughout development and implementation, and this pilot will operate alongside the RAP Program and individual organisations’ RAPs to harness collective impact to meet community-led priorities.
